Made to Crave

I have been reading the most incredible book by one of my favorite authors.  Made To Crave by Lysa Terkeurst is the journey of one woman who desired to be healthy, but at times felt powerless to do so.

Yet when she chose to give her cravings over to prayer, admitting to herself and to others that sometimes she craved food more than God, and understanding that while we were created to consume food it should not consume us.

No one ever sits and thinks that all they want to do is gain weight.  To live sedentary lives and get excited that a heart attack may be around the corner.  No, the majority of us want to be healthy. We want to enjoy active lifestyles and feel powerful and strong in our everyday activities.  But when the road gets long and tough often times we use food as our source of comfort as opposed to going to God and allowing Him to comfort us.

While I was watching the Biggest Loser last night, every single person on that show had an internal issue that they never dealt with. Instead, they turned to food.  They ate and ate until they could no longer control themselves or administer any self control. Not because they didn’t want to…..but because they were suddenly powerless to stop the cycle of abuse they had put themselves in.

Made To Crave shows us that God desires us to crave HIM…..not food.  God does care about what we put in our bodies.  He cares about how we treat our bodies because they were designed by Him and created for so much more than what we think we are capable of.

If this is you, I encourage you to read this book. Lysa is excellent at encouraging us to submit this to God without being judgemental.  Because, she she went on this journey herself.
